JOB PURPOSE
The Sustainable Manufacturing Manager - Waste will play a pivotal role in helping Burberry achieve our Sustainability Product and Planet commitments by developing and implementing a waste reduction and revalue programme for our Supply Chain's production waste. You will actively engage with our internal teams as well as our supply chain partners to map and identify key raw material efficiencies at early stages of the product lifecycle and 'waste' revaluing opportunities. This role requires a dynamic and self-motivated individual with a proactive and can-do attitude to deliver impact through a constant lookout for new possibilities, problem solving and system thinking.
You will also contribute to the implementation of Burberry's Sustainable Manufacturing broader ambitions, including our water, energy and chemical programmes, supporting the achievement of the team's goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and implement a reduction and revalue programme for our production waste.
- Define Supply Chain production waste data requirements in line with programme objectives and reporting, enhancing data collection and governance.
- Map and identify key opportunities for reducing waste, working cross-functionally with key internal teams, such as Development and Product Engineering to identify raw material efficiencies at early stages of the product lifecycle.
- Partner with Product Sustainability business partners, Material Innovation lead and Circular Business lead to develop closed loop projects with product teams to ensure aligned approach to product sustainability.
- Proactively drive the development of a holistic Waste Strategy and guidelines (e.g. Eco-design guidelines, Upcycling guidelines...) in seamless collaboration with Corporate Responsibility functions and other relevant internal teams (Circularity, Design, Development, Product Engineering, etc.).
- Initiate an internal educational programme to inform design, development and sourcing decisions.
- Map and identify key opportunities for revaluing waste, working closely with our Finished Goods Vendors (e.g. upcycling)
- Promote best practices for cutting, sorting, recycling... and research and identify new recycling partners and technologies.
- Build and nurture a network of industry stakeholders in the space of waste management and recycling, and develop collaborative learning opportunities to accelerate industry progress towards circularity.
- Contribute to cross-functional groups (e.g. with Legal or Regulatory and Compliance) to ensure implementation of compliance requirements emerging from Extended Producer Responsibility and other schemes in relation to Waste, specifically within the scope of the role (Supply Chain production waste).
- Contribute to the implementation of Burberry's Sustainable Manufacturing broader ambitions, including our water, energy and chemicals programmes, and seamlessly work with other programme leads and regional implementation managers for the achievement of the team's goals.
- In collaboration with the broader Sustainable Manufacturing team, you will organise capacity building activities (webinars, workshops, Supply Chain events, etc) to drive progress in our goal to embed Sustainable Manufacturing practices across our value chain, including waste and other team focus areas.
- Contribute to the development of the Annual Report and other reporting and disclosure initiatives, closely collaborating with key functions such as Corporate Responsibility.
PERSONAL PROFILE
- Postgraduate studies in Textile/Leather Engineering or other relevant disciplines.
- Experience in garment/accessory manufacturing, development or industrialisation of finished products.
- Familiarity with technologies that support efficient use of materials as well as the ability to industrialize products to meet maximum material efficiency
- Understand the product lifecycle
- Knowledge of the Leather Goods (preferred) and Apparel Industry (desirable) manufacturing processes.
- Dynamic and self-motivated with proactive mindset, can-do attitude and creative thinking.
- Excellent Programme Management skills with the ability to drive cross-functional engagement and commitment.
- Experience in Supply Chain programme implementation.
- Excellent interpersonal and social skills with experience in building partnerships, multistakeholder collaborative learning and collective action groups.
- Passionate about Supply Chain, Sustainability and Circular Economy
- Fluent in English and Italian.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications
- Experience in at least one of the other areas covered by the Sustainable Manufacturing team desired (Water, Energy, Chemicals)
- Availability to travel across Italy and Europe.
