Alastair McKimm, editor-in-chief of British fashion and culture publication i-D, announced Wednesday that he is leaving the title. In an Instagram post showcasing his many i-D covers, he thanked his staff and collaborators for their support during his five-year tenure in the top job.
The news came just a day after the magazine’s new owner, model-turned-entrepreneur Karlie Kloss, announced the magazine would suspend publication in both print and online while the company revamps its business model. During the restructuring, i-D will continue to post on social media and launch an e-mail newsletter while crafting plans to come back “bigger and better than ever: online, in print, and everywhere else you can imagine,” the magazine said in a statement.
Kloss, now i-D’s CEO, acquired the publication last November through her Bedford Media vehicle after its former owner, Vice, declared bankruptcy and was taken over by creditors.
McKimm was initially intended to expand his role, becoming chief creative officer and global editor-in-chief as part of the deal. But plans have since changed.

According to a note sent to staff that was obtained by BoF, McKimm said he truly believes his departure is “the best thing to do for i-D, Karlie and [his] own sanity.”
”I’m truly grateful that Karlie invested in i-D’s legacy,” McKim wrote. “I’m behind her 100% in what she wants to do and to that end I feel that stepping aside and opening the door for a new team is the way to go.”
A successor has not yet been named.
