Job Details
Position Summary: The Womenswear Assistant Designer will work directly with the SVP of Design Apparel to assist in the womenswear garment design process. The Womenswear Assistant Designer will provide support and assistance in creative, preparative and organizational tasks that fall into the womenswear design space/category.
RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
- Helping to prepare design boards for sketch reviews and meetings. Organizing and creating boards with fit photos, design sketches and inspiration.
- Assisting VP of Design to maintain and update design boards with appropriate fabrics, sketches and references images as needed. Excellent organizational skills are a plus.
- Sourcing vintage garments, design notions, mock-ups and sew tests preparation for sketch reviews.
- Imagery, color and design research.
- Maintaining and organizing vintage archive, maintaining workspaces.
- Creating and launching tech packs and sketch updates.
- Creating trials, drapes, and swatches in our in-house atelier to develop and explore new ideas under the direction of the VP of Design.
- Participate in fittings and stylings. Helping to dress models, take fit notes and fit photos if needed.
- Organization with keeping track of VP of Design’s styles passed to Atelier and corresponding tech packs.
- Assistance with note taking during sketch reviews, creative meetings, fittings and styles pass off into atelier.
- Researching inspiration online and offsite.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Fashion Design.
- 1-3 year’s experience on a design team.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator.
- Proficient sewing skills.
- Proficient draping and sketching skills.
- Basic understanding of technical packages.
- Strong time management, ability to prioritize multiple deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic pattern making experience a plus.

In compliance with the New York City salary transparency requirements, the potential salary for this position is from $60,000 to $65,000, which represents a range commensurate with experience, knowledge, and skills required.
