PARIS — Vogue magazine’s brand spectacular “Vogue World” is coming to Paris on June 23 with an Olympics-themed takeover of Place Vendôme that will double as a kind of opening ceremony for the city’s Haute Couture Week, which has been brought forward due to the Summer Games and will run from June 24 to June 27.

Vogue World Paris will follow productions in New York and London which showcased global editorial director Anna Wintour’s power to convene stars from across popular culture and positioned fashion — and the Vogue name — as a sort of connective tissue between the worlds of music, film, theatre and sport, as the title explores new ways to build and monetise its brand.

”If New York was a street fair and London was opening night at the theatre, Paris will be a tribute to the Olympics,” Wintour said at a press conference Monday that included comments from designers Pharrell Williams, Simon Porte Jacquemus, Olivier Rousteing and Marine Serre.

Carine Roitfeld, Ibrahim Kamara and fashion historian Alexandre Samson will oversee the event’s fashion content, which is set to feature looks from each decade since 1924, the last time the Olympics took place in Paris.

Some industry insiders worry the Olympics will bring greater logistical friction and cost to Couture Week. Bruno Pavlovsky, Chanel’s president of fashion and head of the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode, confirmed that most, but not all, of the houses that traditionally stage shows at Couture Week have committed to showing in June.
